including Leopard, one of the Big Five, duiker, steenbok,
lots of spotted hyenas, serval, caracal and civats.
Jackal is in such abundance that their numbers has to
be
maintained in order to ensure the survival of some of the smaller antelopes!
Porcupins are one of the smaller animals flourishes on Schoonspruit -
their favourite meal is dog pellets which they often take from the dogs
on the farm.
Porcupine Bredie (often mistaken for mutton)
is one of the farm's delicacies.
TROPHY
HUNTING
Trophy hunting is open year round, but is far better in the winter months.
Before hunt starts, all hunters will be accompanied to the field to inspect firearms
and ensure aim is still set.
Hunting starts right after inspection unless there are late arrivals
in which case hunting commence the next morning at 6am
All hunting done on foot, but vehicles are used to move closer to the hunting field.
With bushpigs hunting we need notice one week in advance,
to put out bait and set cameras. Cameras help us plan better hunting opportunities.
Hunting bushpigs is done at night (17:00 – 00:00)
from 3 hides accomodating 2 hunters each.
